Then had to pound on top of the cabinet to "sometimes" regain connection. I also soldered the pins to the wires instead of using the factory crimp. The new pins and soldering the wires to the pins should help to keep it more dependable. I replaced the filter caps and other smaller caps and added the bypass caps. The amp is dead quiet and sounds better than when I bought it new in 1974.
Thanks, Dennis

Just need to locate a source for those caps :)

I tested just the power amp, as Ken suggested, into a monitor with (cheap) speaker. All good. Re-connected the pre-amp to power amp signal, and it is working.

I may have the reverb Send and Return signals swapped. Otherwise, it's all good.

Thanks for all of your helpful advice.

Dan
Did you ever say what the problem/fix was?

Hi bob.

I was surprised to see updates to this post. It has been a long time, and TBH I don't remember. I sold the amp a few years ago. Great amp, but I don't play out much, and I wasn't willing to deal with its heft.

I learned some things during my troubleshooting, but I should have just sent the chassis back to Peavey.
