Guess the song and player

Post by kevin ryan »

This solo was one of many I loved from this particular player. I always hoped I could learn his stuff one day and since have learned much of his stuff. I believe it has made me a better player. Love this guy, any idea who and what song?

Hal Rugg - Tippy Toeing, Loretta singing. Hal was great and had some great licks.

What do I win? :D

Good job, KR!

I don't know the solo but it looks as though we may have a winner in Kenny.

One of these days I'm going to make the effort to go to SoCal and visit with you guys - just for the hang!

I want to say Hi to you and Pali and, especially, and if the opportunity arises, JayDee. Then there's Bob B., Doug and many more. Quite an enclave in your neck-of-the-woods!
Roger Rettig: Emmons D10, B-bender Teles, Martins, and a Gibson Super 400!

I might have guessed Hal Rugg or Weldon Myrick, although I didn’t know the tune. Both were monsters and, just my opinion, may have had some stylistic similarities in their E9 work and use of strings one and two from all the time they spent together on the Opry back when they had three steel players on staff (Sonny Burnette the third).

D'uh on me! I've been in awe of Bobby's playing and career since I first saw him with Commander Cody over 50 years ago. Playing bass for him at the Phoenix show was a huge thrill. He is also an astoundingly good non-pedal player.
