Re: Milkman Amps
Try moving the pickup away from the speaker.

But seriously: The only time I played through one, pedal steel mini, inside at the Word Barn, it sounded fantastic.

Re: Milkman Amps
I tried a friend's Half and Half for a few tunes at a jam and it sounded quite nice. But your old Super Reverb sets a pretty high bar, Pete!
From what I've seen and read, the Milkman build quality is very good, which is not always the case with small-medium "boutique amp" shops.

I see that you have a Milkman Sideman head.
Anything in specific you're asking for?
I had a Sideman combo that I absolutely loved.

Re: Milkman Amps
I love The Amp through a TT-12. The tube preamp creates some warm tube squish. Very responsive to touch and attack. Add reverb and tremolo to taste. At 50 watts it gets plenty loud. I use it for steel and electric guitar. Light, small, and portable. No complaints whatsoever.

Re: Milkman Amps
I am loving my Milkman (the Amp) I got last year. 50 or 100 W depending on 8 or 4 ohm load. I usually use two 12” cabs. Tremolo is fantastic, not super crazy about the Reverb but I keep that very light anyway. Both are adjustable internally. I swapped out the 12AX7 tube for a 12AY7 to get a bit more clean headroom. It has a warm, powerful sound even at lower volumes and sits conveniently on the floor, usually by my left foot.

I've had a PS300 Half & Half for about 5 years now, and couldn't be happier with it.

Re: Milkman Amps
I discovered Tim Marcus and Milkman about a decade ago, and as he kept introducing new and even more interesting amps, I kept switching over...so I've owned nearly every amp he makes, at some point. Somewhat different power levels (VERY conservatively rated) and feature sets...Every one was incredibly well built and sounded amazing...his basic design is Bassman-derived, but with tweaks from every Fender era and his own mind to take the tone to a higher level. And built really solid - mine actually bounced down a small flight of stairs once, but played perfectly from then on...
Get one...you won't be disappointed....
My last Milkman tube amp was a Pedal Steel Mini...the newest version of this amp is way better and louder than the previous ones...but I finally opted for the The Amp 100 due to Long Covid weakness....both were, and are, amazing.

Re: Milkman Amps
I use The Amp 100 and really like it. The two-band eq may seem skimpy, but the midrange sits just right for steel. I use it with either a JBL K120 or a Weber Neomag. You can get a lot of "eq" out of the boost, and the reverb is ok, good enough that I don't really miss my preferred reverb if I don't bring it.

I saw a YouTube documentary on Vox amps the other night, and they famously threw their amps down flights of stairs to prove their road worthiness as a marketing stunt....Steve Lipsey wrote: 12 Jun 2025 12:41 pm I discovered Tim Marcus and Milkman about a decade ago, and as he kept introducing new and even more interesting amps, I kept switching over...so I've owned nearly every amp he makes, at some point. David,
I have one of Tim's K120 milkman speakers. I'm very impressed ! I think he has succeeded in his quest for THAT sound.
BTW: I've been using Tim's amps for a while now and they are fantastic.

Re: Milkman Amps
I have an Amp 100 that I’ve been using and I really like it. I like the reverb sound on it much better than my Quilter, and I think the amp has a better, more lively sound overall. I was concerned about lack of a mid control as well but I haven’t missed it at all.

Re: Milkman Amps
I find that keeping the boost always on, set at 9 o'clock, seems to round out the EQ and make up for the lack of mid control...not my discovery, found the idea on one of those many Youtube review sites...

Re: Milkman Amps
I do the same thing, after seeing a video with Tim talking about how he sets his up for pedal steel. Boost at 9, volume at 10 (o'clock, not max!).Steve Lipsey wrote: 6 Jul 2025 4:19 pm I find that keeping the boost always on, set at 9 o'clock, seems to round out the EQ and make up for the lack of mid control...not my discovery, found the idea on one of those many Youtube review sites...
