Am I hosed? (Goodrich pedal)

Post by Mark Bunster »

If the little screw inside the pedal keeping the action stiff (ie so it doesn’t flop to full volume if you take your foot off) breaks in half inside the cylinder, is that all she wrote for the pedal or is there a way to dig it out somehow?

Have a photo but not sure how to post it.

Thanks!

Mark,

The usual method of extracting a broken screw requires a "screw extractor".

Screw extractors usually come in sets, for example...
https://www.harborfreight.com/screw-ext ... =591&gQT=1

This set also includes a small drill bit to make a "pilot" hole in which to insert the appropriate screw extractor bit, which is then turned counter-clockwise to remove the broken screw.
  • You might want to dribble some thin oil or Liquid Wrench in the hole before you try removing the broken screw.
You may want to check if there are any YouTube videos that demonstrate how to extract a broken screw--one often only gets one chance to extract it.

Do you mean one of the screws that hold either end of the spring hold down tabs in the rear of the pedal or something else?

There are screws that hold the pot string in place and on the barrel at the business end.

Besides that, there is a set screw that holds the pivot pin in place mid pedal.

You can probably disassemble the pedal by loosening the set screw, removing the pivot pin and separating the 2 halves where you can get at the broken screw and evaluate what needs to be done to repair it.

The tension adjuster spring and screw assembly has been replaced by an adjustable tension axle. You can repair your tension adjuster assembly very easily and inexpensively or replace the assembly- contact Goodrich- Kevin is there to help.

Jim, can you get a tension axle for any Goodrich VP or are they just for the newer models?

I was advised via email that the older pedals can be drilled out for the new tension shaft.

Not helpful, but the obvious subject for this post would have been "Am I Screwed?"

Call me and I can walk you though it, I just realized that I will have to probably drill and tap a new hole in there for that anchor screw but you can send it to me and I will fix it. Remember it’s an Allen screw in there and generally pretty hard to break.
