Best modern d10s under 5k?
Hi guys, I’m currently playing an old msa/kline hybrid from the 70s and I’m thinking about upgrading to something a little newer. I mainly want something lighter, more reliable, and better pedal feel. I think the max I’d be able to spend would be 5k. What are good options in your opinion?

That's a great price point. You should have no problem scoring a good D-10 for 5K; You would want the newest and most pristine guitar you can get from any of the major brands still being made, Justice, MSA, GFI, Williams, Show Pro; Rittenberry, Mullen; etc; I see a lot of Williams out there. There's also a lot of push pulls and Lashley Emmons available in that price range, which are very much sought after, although obviously those are going to be older, but lots of folks swear by them. There's individual differences in any particular guitar and brand of guitar, but in general something as new as possible and with the lowest possible mileage will have the best potential. For 5K you are going to have a lot of great choices.
Derby SD-10 5x6; GFI S-10 5x5; GFI S-10 5x5; Zum D-10 8x7; Zum D-10 9x9; Fender 400; Fender Rumble 200; Nashville 400; Telonics TCA-500.

Cole.. Not seeing many d10 steels by currently active builders in the 5 K range.. Kind of a shame really, prices are getting crazy.. Your post was not clear if you want a brand new guitar, or simply a newer ,more modern used guitar.. If you want a clean, lightly used, lighter, newer, more modern D10, your 5K will get you there in spades,, You'll have a pick of many in that price range, it all depends on what you like... If you want new?.. Better start saving up and adding a few grand more to what you plan to spend.. If it were me, I would look for something like a lightly used Carter D10 which is everything you noted, and you would still have a couple grand to get amps, pedals, and whatever else you can use. If you want brand new, some builders might take a trade on your current guitar, and get you closer to what you want to spend.. Consider a clean used D10, you'll get so much more for your money... in my opinion... bob

Not sure what the current price on a D-10 9s, but my one-year-old Williams is just a wonderful S-12 universal.... I suggest you take a look at their web site.

Williams list a 700 D10 for 5295.00 with Split turner and other upgrades.
There is some used guitars Mullen, Emmons guitars for sale on the forum, For less than your top price.
It may take money to have the guitar, Went through and setup to your specs.
If you feel confident in your mechanical knowledge, To pull changers and set up the guitar, Would allow you more guitars to consider.
Good Luck in finding your dream guitar, Happy Steelin.

$5300 for a new D10 is actually reasonable these days, and a Willy is as good a guitar as is built IMHO... So the OP has a solid option... Personally I would go with a clean used guitar and pocket the 2K or so left over, but thats just me... I hope he finds what he is looking for.
