Pedal Steel Repairperson Directory thread

Post by Tom Wroblewski »

.I love the PSG forum and as a newbie with pedal steels,.I learned a lot from members inputs and answers to questions..I need help with my Shobud LDG...and cant seem to find anyone in the Buffalo New york area that does repairs..so I'm wondering why there isn't a place here on the forum that repair guys and restoration guys can post a listing by state or city that would help us newcomers get local help..perhaps there is something like that here, but I have done searches with not a lot of success...

Hi Tom! Welcome to "The Forum." From my own experience, the Steel Guitar Journey can be a real blast... but also can have moments of frustration.

Steel Guitar Mechanical issues can be one source of frustration. Getting help with those issues can be frustrating also because steel guitar mechanics are few and far between. Guys who really know their stuff and make a living at it are a very rare bird, indeed.

From past experience, I have found that posting your need for help can bring the advice you need. You can also post your need for a mechanic. You may have to send your steel off to someone. Or, maybe there is someone locally who is not a pro, but can help.

Posting seems to be the most effective route.

Just post a thread in the Pedal Steel section. In fact, I'll just move this thread there. If repairers or builders want to add contact information to this thread, great. But we don't want to force people to put up their contact info.

There is a list of builder links here - https://b0b.com/wp/links/

I believe forum member John Widgren in Connecticut is available and is highly qualified.

I believe forum member Tommy Cass in Massachusetts is available and highly qualified.

Billy Cooper's shop in Virginia is also available and highly qualified.

I don't know if forum member Kevin Hatton is taking pedal steel repair jobs, but he is in the Buffalo area and is highly qualified.

I don't know if forum member Mike D'Alesandro is taking pedal steel repair jobs, but he is in the Buffalo area and is highly qualified.

I do encourage anyone who wants to add their info here to do so.

I agree with Dave. Post when you need help. I would be afraid to post my personal info (phone number, address, etc...) in an open forum like this. A brick & Mortar business would be different. With all the scammers in this world, it is not recommended (remember, your info will be visible to everyone, member or not). A well accepted rule when doing anything on the internet is to NEVER post personal info.

I've been repairing, modifying and rebuilding steels since 1990. If you're in the Austin Texas area or don't mind shipping to me, I can handle it. Not only do I have good sources for many hard to find parts I can also machine them here in house.
You can contact me through the forum PM or email links.

Just reviving this thread. Since I last posted, I've had Dave Grafe do quite a bit of work for me and I'm taking my G2 D10 to him shortly to add knee levers to the C6 neck. I highly recommend Dave's work which has been excellent (at very fair prices) if you are in the New York/Hudson Valley region.

Hi Steelers. I'm looking to roust my Sho Bud Pro-1 out of the closet here in Philadelphia, where it's been sitting for 7 years as I've gone through 3 hip replacements (the first two were so much fun I just had to go back for more). Anyway, now that the hips are back in shape I want to get the steel going as well, but I'd love to have someone do a cleaning/setup/general inspection before I do. I'm not anxious to ship but I'm happy to drive an hour or two, which makes for a radius in the NYC area, down to Baltimore/DC and west to Central PA. I read the previous replies and didn't see anybody in that zone, so I'm looking for suggestions. Thanks much. David

If you have broken or missing parts, you probably need a real repair guy. If you are needing adjustments, fine tuning, or copedent changes, there may be someone reasonably close who would be willing to help you out. The mechanics of an all pull guitar are really pretty straight forward. Describe the issues you are having.

In the Nashville area, Wayne Dahl. You can contact him through Johnnie King, a Forum members who always has steel guitars advertised in the For Sale thread here on the Forum.
