BIAB & Apple - advice & suggestions?

Post by Eric Philippsen »

Im seriously thinking of getting into BIAB. The older IPad I have had its battery go bad and I thought maybe now's the time to get another + the program. Or a laptop? Or...????

Anyway, is there any +'s or -'s to an Apple based setup versus the other format?

What Apple product would you get to accomodate the program, without going overboard? I don't want more than I would need. Ease of use is big.

Thanks for helping this old guy.

I'm running BIAB 2011 on a Dell laptop with 8GB of ram and 1TB Harddrive. It has worked great for me. I bought the laptop from QVC when they were running a special.

Just be aware if 8gb, (or whatever size you have in your Mini) is sufficient RAM for you, because: I bought a Mac Mini for Pro Tools and BIAB, and found out the RAM couldn't be upgraded. Went to a tower eventually - with a lot of room for advancement.

BIAB ran fine with 8gb RAM when I used it with the MINI, though, on both my Macs and PC's, but not with heavy usage with another DAW (Adobe Audition or Pro Tools)..at least for me. MINI's are nice and compact, though.

When I first got BIAB 2015 for Mac, it was almost inconvenient to use on the Mac. Simple things like scrolling and things that were standard with PC weren't on the Mac. BUT, about a year ago they brought out an update that really helped. At that time Real Band wasn't included on the Mac version. Not sure if it is now or not.
