Donner Hush guitar as electric dobro

Post by K Maul »

I just bought this very light weight and compact unit for about $250. It has a piezo bridge pickup. I run it through either a Fishman JD Aura or Danelectro Fish n Chips EQ into an amp or DI. It gets close enough to a dobro sound for electric “non-Bluegrass” gigs. The pickup responds well to an overdrive pedal, too.

This is interesting! Did you raise the nut? What tuning are you using on it?

Yes I used the old metal “perfect nut” raiser that’s still available. I use straight dobro G tuning. I use .052,042,034,024,016,014 gauge strings.

Kevin. Thanks for this suggestion. I got one and it works really well with my Tom Bradshaw reso pedal. Better than my old cat-can lap steel.
