Fender Volume Pedal into a Volume Tone Pedal

Post by Kevin Jones »

Is it possible to convert a Fender Volume Pedal into a Volume Tone Pedal? it looks like the enclosure is the same, I would just need the tone parts, if so, where would I find the parts ie: pot shaft cover, pulley system, string?

A volume/tone pedal moves up and down for volume and swivels side to side for tone so it would be a major redesign. It could be converted to a tone pedal by adding a capacitor and rewiring the pot.

if you remove the center screw under the rubber the pedal moves in both directions. there's even a place to mount the tone pot and pulley.

Is that a reissue? I don't know anything about those. These are two old ones and they are totally different animals.

Makes sense that they engineered the reissue around a common case.
I've never encountered this question before and I haven't a clue where you might find parts.

Here are the insides of the reissue VT pedal. Assuming yours has the pot bracket and pully, it could be done. Otherwise, I would try to find a used VT pedal and buy it. After replacing many pots, caps and strings in my VT pedals I have become fairly competent working on them, and I would not want to attempt such a conversion. YMMV.

I'm crazy enough to try it, the thing I'm really not sure of is how to search for that pulley thing on the pot, what would you call that?
