Black 705 vs L710

Post by Loren Morehouse »

I tried the black 705 PU some years ago and was wondering how that would compare to the now L710. If anyone has tried both would like to hear your input. Thanks, Loren.

Following… I have a black 705 and just ordered a 710. Will update when I put it in the guitar.

I find the 705 "hotter" with more pronounced mids and highs, and tighter lows than the 710. My perception of the 710 is that it is smoother in general from low to high strings, especially the mids, and not as "punchy" as the 705. Of course there are variables, like strings, amp, settings, ambient environment, picking technique, etc. They are both great pickups. Your ears might hear differently. It's purely a natter of personal preference.

The 705 to me was very tweaky. Thanks for the input. And you're right, personal preference with everything. You have to decide what's right for you.

Just put the 710s in my guitar. I think they’re great. So far I’ve only played it through my quilter but didn’t have to do hardly any tweaking on the eq for them to sound great and well rounded in the full spectrum of the sound. They don’t have the growl that the 705 has so may be suitable for more applications. I like them both though!
