Sad news, but I know that Buzz had been struggling these past few years. He was always an inspiration to me, the consummate musician who could play any style. Below is one of my favorite pictures from the St. Louis Convention, around 2000. Photo by Dr. Wayne Yakes

Lost another great friend today, Buzz has left us.
I loved the time he lived here in Austin, in-between his gigs in Las Vegas. We played together in Tony Harrison's band and on lead guitar he knew exactly how to accompany a steel player to perfection. And his off-the-wall, somewhat esoteric sense of humor jived with me wonderfully. We stayed in touch after he left town, until his health issues forced him to leave Vegas and move in with Debbie.

My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?

Buzz Evans was a true dear friend with me (SwampWater Fox Uncle LEO) and the real deal of super pickers. I remember in Las Vegas with his grandson I took them both on Toby Keith's stage to visit with his Drummer Dave. Dave let his Grandson play on his drums. I visit many times with Buzz & Ross Lewis as well as in Memphis, Tn. I always enjoyed playing music with Buzz on stage or even in a Recording Studio. I know Earl Poole Ball feels the same as I about this passing of Buzz. We love you Buzz, RIP. Prayers for his Family.

Even though I never met the man, he had a huge influence on me with respect to steel guitar. I new of him as a fantastic and unique guitar player back in the 70's after buying the Dick Curless LP "Live at the Wheeling Truck Driver's Jamoboree" (with Curly Chalker on steel). It wasn't until about 10 years ago that I happened to bump into his steel guitar videos from Vegas on YouTube. I was so blown away by his C6 playing that it made me start thinking about learning the instrument I've always loved. His style was full of soul and reminded me just a bit of Billy Marshal (Herb will remember him -- another brilliant and soulful steel player who I had both the pleasure and pain to work closely with during our time in Austin).
Very sad to hear of Buzz's passing, such a great musician.

Buzz Evans
I saw him at the St. Louis convention and he played the Pink Panther theme. Shows great talent.

Re: RIP Buzz Evans
Does anyone have a copy of Buzz's CD "its a Hard Life" I would love to own one! Such a shame such a fantastic player to just fade away and IMHO his work was gold dust.

Re: RIP Buzz Evans
There are a few videos of Buzz playing pedal steel on YouTube.
On this video he’s playing outdoors in Las Vegas. He had a steady gig playing on the patio/stage of one of the venues, playing to backing tracks. Great stuff.
