Some interfaces can be used in "standalone mode" without a computer or software. I have been using mine which is this cheap model. https://www.behringer.com/product.html? ... e=0805-AAS
You just run the USB to power and run the headphones out to the amp input. This is standalone mode, no computer needed, it's just a preamp. The mix knob is for latency free monitoring, but not being connected to the computer, it seems to function almost like a tone control or something. I like stereo better for acoustic guitar. The gain works as normal and you have all the other options available on this slick device.
If you want effects you can run them in between the guitar and the input or add them in from a computer connected to USB. I am blown away by how clean and quiet this thing is. The preamps are known to be one of the quietest on the market. I have been playing it through studio monitors and I am loving it so much I don't see why this couldn't just be built into a little amp head.

Re: Audio Interface Into Powered Speaker As Amp
I finished this setup using this amp https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPeV7KKrQf8 It works very well!
These are cheap class D amps in a variety of configurations and quality, some up to 600W (yeah right!) usually for under $100. This one has good reviews and uses a chip that works nicely for guitars and such, TPA3118. The amp is as quiet or quieter than the Quilter Superblock that I used to have, and has a similar or more volume. This model has a bypass for the EQ so you can just use the power amp section. The EQ is kind of nice because you can tune the amp to whatever speakers you are using. It is more set and forget, then use the volume on the preamp pedal of your choice. I added a little 1/4" jack so I can also plug in my 15" cabinet if I want a big sound.
Forgot to mention I am also running it on 12V (can run up to 24V) so this is easy to setup as a battery powered rig.
These amps seem to be really great for a pedal platform. For people using a lot of pedals, especially including preamps, I never understood using a super fancy amp when all you want is a clean platform. Class D is perfect for this.

Re: Audio Interface Into Powered Speaker As Amp
The speakers were salvaged from my old monitors with a bad volume pot .The small hole on the top is for running the usb out to phone or laptop. There is a 3 outlet plug inside for AC power.
