Profex-II -> DPC STEREO Power Amp substitute?
I quit playing PSG at the end of the Profex-II craze in 2001 and sold pretty much everything off then.
Since I/ve come back to PSG (now C6th only) I've tried various modeling amps and FX pedals but would like to come back to a STEREO Setup to create the surround-sound I used to have with the following Jeff Newman's "Bill's SteelME" program:
DL->P1+CH+RV
DL (Type = Stereo / L Del = 60ms / L F-back = 0% / R Del = 130ms / R F-back = 0% / TS = 4K / Mix = 100%)
-> P1 (IN = L50, R50 / Pre Del = 20ms / Pitch = +0 / Cent = +5 / F-back = 0% / L Mix = 100% / R Mix = 100%)
+ CH (Rate = 0.8Hz / Depth = 10% / Del = 28.9ms / F-back = +19 / Mix = 100)
+ RV (Type = Spring / Size = Large / Pre Del = 30 ms / Time = 2.7 sec / Damp = 8KHz / Mix = 100%)
I am trying to find a preferable rack setup I can keep on stage next to the steel with something which would like the ProFEX did, serve as pre-amp/FX and also feed it's STEREO signal into a rack power-amp into my two JBL 130D speakers boxes.
Anybody have an idea which components to use?
Thanks!... J-D.

You can still find some Profex II units for sale around here at times or Transtubefex. Either of those with the cache card or installed Newman programs would put you back where you were.
Winston May did have a DPC750 a few months ago.
This configuration is great and still very relevant with all the steel presets anybody could want. Just need to add a 2 sp. rack case.

Yeah, that stuff was great. I actually stuck to the ProFEX and didn't go to the TubeFEX which I felt was only geared towards guitar players' trend to distort things a bit.
I find it just hard to believe that there seems to be nothing that replaced it... I mean an evolution of it... we're talking almost 30 years!
Rack-mounts are still the standard in studio gear. These things could today well be one rack high WITH the power amp in it.
When I had it back then, above setting, once I understood it, was the only one I used. Most couldn't do anything with it.
Basically, it's just for surround FX and you place a dry amp in the middle. It gives the SOR BE Swing Shift & Christmas Album sound. With a clear clean dry tone in the middle.
I want that "back"!... J-D.

Re: Profex-II -> DPC STEREO Power Amp substitute?
Yes, I agree. I don't use those units, but I'm still using stereo rack gear with components I programmed myself.
Acutally, those "fex" units are really all the same if one uses the cache card.
Anyway, I have maintained for all these years that that system you had back then is still hard to beat. Any player could have great steel sounds and find something they like with just a scroll.
I know of nothing like that currently unless you just build it yourself like I did, and that's a shame.
The trend seems to be just any huge complement of stomp boxes and mini D class amps in a mono config.

Yeah! "Progress" I believe they call it? Back to stomp boxes!Jerry Overstreet wrote: 16 Jun 2025 10:35 am Yes, I agree. I don't use those units, but I'm still using stereo rack gear with components I programmed myself.
