G maj 9 tuning -- G/D hybrid tuning
I need my memory jumpstarted. Didn't our founder Bobby Lee record an album using this tuning? Without any palm benders? Or did I imagine that?

Listening to "Stella" has helped me a lot finding the basic chords, grips. and slants available in that tuning. In the end, I'll be re-installing Certano palm levers on that particular guitar, without having to depend on them for every song or every lick. Maybe that's how slow learners have to do it.

It’s a pretty slick tuning.
G B D F# A D
I’m not sure if there’s another 6 string tuning with so many root position chords under a straight bar.

I’ve used this same tuning but up a whole step, for years. Got a minor chord and a major 7th built right in. Also east switches for different sounds - take the low string up a whole step and you have a 6th sound, then raise the 5th string a half step and you have blues on the bottom strings. Really versatile.

Another note is that in E you can move this tuning to either C6 or B6 pretty easily! E to G gets a bit tight but it's still workable.

It is a powerful little tuning......but.....if you happen to have a 7 string guitar, you can open up the door to Narnia by adding a low E......
Low to high.......EGBDF#AD
Now it's an Em11 and in this one time offer we will give you....
Em
Em7
Em9
Em11
Stright bar - adjacent strings

Howard, you are a wellspring of great lore and guitar fun, but now I need to build a seven stringer, Jeez!
BTW, you need to bump the new one's post, because you left out the tuning.

OR.........
going back to 6 strings.....E m11.....EGBDF#A
Here is chord comparison.....stright bar-adjacent strings:
G maj9
G
G maj7
G maj9
Bm
Bm7
D
D with root on top & bottom
E m11
Em
E m7
E m9
E m11
G
G maj7
G maj9
Bm
B m7
D
You pretty much get everything with the E m11 tuning that you have with the G maj9 tuning plus 4 additional chords, but you lose the D on top thus losing that 1st D chord inversion......the other drawback is that you can't retune to GBDGBD on the fly if you were so inclined, butt ( I ), you can easily retune to EG#BEG#B if you want those dobro style licks, patterns, & positions......or maybe just get a 6 or 7 string pedal steel and put one of these tunings on that.....
