Quad Cortex

Post by Cody Coombs »

With all of the players diving into the modeling world, there’s a Lot of us using the ToneX, either Live or at home. How many of you are using the Quad Cortex and what have your experiences been with it? What sort of rig are you running with it?

I’m just diving into the QC myself, and MR. Joe Rogers has been more than helpful with any and all questions regarding getting it to sound good for the steel, as well as providing great sounding clean amp profiles.

I’ve been using the QC for the last 2 years…I too got some of Joe Rogers captures …but in less than a half hour I captured my Standel 82L15..and that’s the tone/sound I like the best and use…thru the years in different band I’ve dabbled with in ear monitors..always afraid to spend the big bucks as everyone in the band mostly has to make the commitment to go big..and that can be a hard sell financially for most weekend warriors…the artist I’ve been working for the last three years insisted on amp less stage and with the potential for him going somewhere I decided to jump all in…molded 64Audion in ears and Quad Cortex..the QC is huge with the guitar world…the versatility of the QC I suspect is unmatched…I have different opportunities to use transducer equip fiddle and banjo along with the steel guitar and the QC can accept up to 4 inputs and four programmed outputs with vast tone shaping abilities ….i use reverb..delay and overdrive with the steel..and the QC has these on board and are quite good enough…you can not capture ant time based effects..but if so inclined you can endlessly tweak to your desire the on board time based effects… the QC certainty won’t be for everyone..expensive compared to Tone X (QC does not come with a robust power supply..wall wart I keep in the Gator flight case for back up so I use a Ciosk that can provide the two amps dc load.) anyways…in ears take getting used to.. but my experience with the QC is studio quality sound on a live stage and you get to hear every clam you make both dynamically and technically very very clearly … Quad Cortex is amazing..oh and their online forum captures and presets could keep you busy for three lifetimes
