13 and 14 string lap steel guitars
Who makes 13 and 14 string lap steel guitars? Are there any that are for sale?

While I can’t answer your question, I’m curious about what your intentions are with all those strings? A 12 tone tuning? Two different tunings? Chord combinations, or close intervals?Melody Freeman wrote: 27 Jan 2026 1:58 pm Who makes 13 and 14 string lap steel guitars? Are there any that are for sale?

Gibson made at least one 13 string pre-WWII. It had a nut and bridge cut for two tuning side-by-side, one 6 string and one 7 string. There may have been more than one which changed hands and was offered for sale multiple times. The instrument or instruments were pictured in multiple magazine articles and listed on several vintage dealer's stock lists.
Ron Mielzynski, if I spelled his name correctly, has RAM Guitars somewhere up in the Northwest suburbs here. He's made at least one 13 string that is or was owned by a SGF member.
One of my local guys built a one-off 14 string and only because I had a 14 string Sierra pickup available. I checked with the current owner who doesn't want to sell it. The original templates still exist and another could be made but getting a pickup would be a major problem.

Forum member Dom Franco makes 13 string steels. I have one. Good guitars, very reasonable prices.
