New Maverick II arrives this week. 3 months and a week after ordering.

Post by Bill McCloskey »

Just received notification that my new Sho-bud Maverick II is arriving this week. I ordered it on Nov 28th, so just a week over three months from order to delivery. Can't wait.

Had to fight the cat for it but now it is setup. I'll give my review once I've had a change to put it through it's paces.

Looks great Bill!

This is not "your grandfather's Maverick" like many here have owned, or like a Maverick I took some lessons on as a kid.

When I first heard they were reviving the Maverick name sometime back I initially thought it might be an updated version of the old student/beginner model guitar.

Though with a starting price of $3250 that's obviously not the case.

I did better than that. Back in November they were having a black friday sale. I got the guitar, shipped, with tax all in for $3k. Been playing it now for about an hour and there is something about this guitar that screams: ROCK and ROLL. Great bluesy feel, not mellow like my G2. I put some distortion on it and it was glorious. If you are looking for something to cut through in a live gig, man, this thing will do it. Just under 50 pounds in the case

Here is some more eye candy. I've been playing the Maverick for 24 hours now and it grows on me more and more. There is something to be said for simplicity. I'm so used to 2 necks, 9 pedals and levers......to have something that is just 3x4, everything easily found..hard to describe but you feel more strapped into the instrument somehow. The sound is unique. I've been playing with different amp settings and effects, and it really lends itself to a screaming electric blues sound down to a mellow country ballad. Playing a Pull release guitar is a new experience as is tuning one. Once I get it in tune, it seems to stay in tune.

I've actually been thinking: man, I could spend the rest of my life with just this and never get to the bottom of it. I should just sell everything else and focus on that. (don't worry, I'm not making any rash decisions).

Bill,
I play a Jackson Blackjack currently and have noticed that the pedals on newer Jackson's/Sho-bud's have been moved more to the center of the guitar vs. the far left that I am used to. Has that posed you any issues in getting used to? I am probably over-thinking it, but every time I see a picture of one or think about possibly ordering one, that issue crosses my mind.

Nice looking guitar Bill. Have you kept track of how many guitars have you had since you started playing a few years ago?

Your cat varmint is a twin to Stuart, my little pal of 12 years who disappeared a few months ago. I call for him every time I go out of the house, just in case. :(

It looks like the sunken key head, May have took the space for cross shafts and bell cranks, Under the guitar. The LKL looks like it is the last cross shaft space, Before the sunken key head. That should will make the guitar very comfortable to sit at.

My first big boy steel was a MSA S10 Classic. It had the first pedal in the 3rd pedal slot right on the pedal bar. Makes the guitar more comfort for your left ankle/left foot on pedals, And left leg between the knee levers.

Good Luck with your new baby, Happy Steelin.
