Sage Benado's new Fuzzy Thing

Post by Stephen Cowell »

It sure was nice to see Sage at TSGA... been missing him!

Busy busy weekend but I did finally get a chance to try his new creation. Sage has taken what he knows of distortion and created the 'Fuzzy Thing' (FT). Evidently there is also a pre- or post- section called the 'Magic Box' (MB), it's going to be patchable either before or after the FT. It adds so much to the FT that he's just including it in the same box.

What I heard was extremely adjustable, everything from Big Muff to Jordan Boss-Tone to MXR to Fuzz Face, silicon to germanium, symmetrical to asymmetrical. EQ seemed to have either notch (a la SuperFuzz) or peak available, like a parametric mid control pair of knobs.

What really blew my mind was when he told me 'what gauge are you playing? Nines? Want to hear them as 10's or 11's?' And he pulled it off! My Stratocaster had never sounded like *that* before I can tell you that... and this was just the Magic Box talking, no distortion.

Anyway, sign me up for one. I've got many fuzz/distortion boxes in my collection but this one can do it all. It's just in prototype right now but should be out later in the year. I would have liked to attend his TSGA seminar but I video'd all day Fri/Sat in the NP room (we had fun!). Just hanging around him you get a little of that seminar knowledge every time he talks to someone... just know he's available for consultation, even without his products involved.
Too much junk to list... always getting more.
